Shared spaces in DTU’s new timber building

The new research building of Technical University of Denmark (DTU)  brings together research and everyday life in an open and cohesive environment. Across several floors, the shared areas are designed for breaks, meetings and informal conversations, making it easy to connect across disciplines.

The interior is based on a combination of existing and new furniture. Some of the existing pieces have been upcycled, including spray coating of chairs and table frames, while DTU has carried out other parts of the upcycling. This creates a consistent and calm expression throughout the building.

The different areas vary in both function and atmosphere. Some spaces are designed for focus and quiet, while others support short meetings and informal use. Timber, daylight and greenery are recurring elements that help tie the spaces together.

The project has been developed in collaboration with DTU,  and C.F Møller architects. Holmris B8 has been responsible for the interior of the shared areas, delivering both new furniture and upgrades of existing pieces.
