Bespoke café and gallery interior

Step into Two Story in Amsterdam, a café and gallery where almost every piece of furniture and accessory is designed and custom-made exclusively for the space.

The entire location was renovated from the basement to the attic, and interior elements such as benches, tables, shelves, and even the café counter and magazine stands, were carefully designed to match the vision of the owners, Justus Klabou and Linde Brentjens. atelier axo served as the architect for the project, from renovation to interior design, while a local contractor led the works on site. Holmris B8 was chosen to bring the interior vision to life.

From the earliest sketches to the final installation, the project was a true partnership. atelier axo led the architectural and interior design concept and delivered detailed technical drawings, while Holmris B8 brought bespoke production expertise, shaping every element with precision.

Elements were built in our workshop in Denmark and later installed in Amsterdam by the same team, ensuring that every piece was assembled with precision.

On the collaboration, Caroline S. Vogel from atelier axo says:

“The project had to be delivered within a short timeframe, and a key advantage was that Holmris B8 could bring all the interior trades under one roof – joiners, metalworkers and masons – while also taking responsibility for the entire delivery and on-site assembly. This setup created a clear, efficient communication process, allowing us to focus on the architectural development, furniture design, and streamlining our workflows. The collaboration was close and highly effective, and thanks to our in-depth knowledge of Holmris’ high-quality standards, we had complete confidence in entrusting both delivery and installation to their team – even when the project was executed in Amsterdam.

The result is a pared-down yet tactile and warm atmosphere, with contrasts in materials such as oak and tile, soft shapes and hard steel – a space that stimulates the senses and sparks curiosity.
