New spaces for research and collaboration
The Bartholin Building at Aarhus University has undergone a major renovation and reopened in spring 2025 as a modern research environment for the Department of Biomedicine. Originally constructed in the 1970s, the building has been completely refurbished with a focus on both functionality and aesthetics and has received the City Architect’s Special Award.
The renovation included an energy upgrade and a full renewal of the interior areas, including laboratories, offices, common spaces, and meeting areas. The result is a bright and welcoming environment that promotes knowledge sharing, collaboration, and well-being across research groups.
Holmris B8 has supplied furniture for all five floors, covering office workstations, meeting rooms, canteen, and lounge areas. The delivery was made through SKI (the Danish public procurement service) and consists of solutions that combine functionality, quality, and a calm aesthetic that complements the building’s architecture.
The interior design concept was developed in collaboration with architect Anne Reinholdt, who was responsible for the overall interior design and furniture coordination.
