A new school surrounded by nature
In Nye, just north of Aarhus, Ravnbakke School has opened its doors to a brand-new school with room for 800 children. Holmris B8 supplied and installed the loose furniture throughout the school, helping create spaces for learning, after-school activities, and community.
Ravnbakke School is designed to be more than just a school. With facilities for education, after-school activities, local clubs, and cultural events, the building is intended to serve as a gathering place for the local community in Nye.
A city within a city
Kjaer & Richter, together with Christensen & Co. Arkitekter, designed the school as a “city within a city,” where smaller buildings and clusters create different spaces for learning, activities, and social interaction.
Nature plays a central role in the architecture, with direct access to outdoor areas from every floor and an ambition to have 20 percent of all learning take place outdoors.
Furniture for a school with many functions
Holmris B8 supplied and installed loose furniture throughout the entire school.
With so many different spaces, age groups, and activities, the project called for furniture that supports the specific needs of each space while maintaining a consistent design throughout the school. Aesthetics, quality, and durability were therefore key considerations when selecting the furniture. Materials, artwork, and colors were also carefully chosen to bring elements of nature indoors.
As part of the interior design process for the school’s after-school and youth club, Klub Ravnbakke, Holmris B8 and UngiAarhus invited students from 4th, 5th, and 7th grade to take part in creative workshops. The children and young people created mood boards and shared ideas for the club’s interior. They also helped develop a photographic art project, giving them the opportunity to put their own personal touch on the new spaces.
Holmris B8 worked closely with Aarhus Ejendomme (Aarhus’ property management department), along with the project manager and architect from the City of Aarhus, to bring the many solutions together and ensure that everything was delivered and installed in time for the start of the school year.
Now the furniture has moved in, and so have the students. Take a look inside the school in the photos below.
