Holmris B8’s circular interior design method selected as a Børsen Sustainable Case

At Holmris B8, we’re proud to once again (2023, 2022) be selected as one of the 50 featured Børsen Sustainable Cases. This year, we’ve been recognized for a specific and extraordinarily ambitious project that demonstrates how a systematic and data-driven approach to circular interior design can reduce both CO₂ emissions and costs.

Data as the Foundation for Sustainable Decisions

In the project, over 16,000 pieces of furniture from three locations were registered, assessed, and categorized according to three parameters: reuse, upcycling, or replacement. This assessment enabled us to optimize the use of existing inventory and make informed decisions with documented environmental benefits.

The distribution was:

  • 33% reused furniture
  • 11% upcycled furniture
  • 51% newly purchased, environmentally certified furniture

Measurable Results

Using this method, the project achieved tangible savings in both emissions and budget:

  • 3,325 tons of CO₂ avoided by reusing instead of producing new items
  • 10,000 pieces of furniture were sold or donated, preventing them from becoming waste
  • 90% CO₂ reduction in furniture transport through the use of HVO biodiesel
  • 20% reduction in furniture budget compared to a traditional office interior design project

The method can be applied in both public and private interior projects and adapted based on scale and needs. Being named a Børsen Bæredygtig Case recognizes the project’s scalability, business relevance, and environmental impact.
